Biography

Bio: Ben grew up in Corvallis, Oregon, and began his academic career at Oregon State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in health promotion and worked pretty much every job in the intramural sports program. His passion for sports and recreation led him to pursue graduate studies at the University of Kansas, completing a master’s in sports studies and a graduate assistantship with Recreation Services.

As the club sports director at the University of Oregon, Ben oversees a diverse range of teams from alpine ski to wushu and everything in between, supporting thousands of student participants each year in achieving their competitive goals. He embodies PE and Rec’s Active Balanced Lives motto by encouraging students to stay active, participate in sports, and pursue their passions.

Outside of work, Ben is dedicated to his wonderful and very active family. He and his high school sweetheart, Nichole, share their lives with their five children: Liam, Wyatt, Owen, Emrie, and Asher. Together, they cherish annual traditions like summer camping trips in Sisters, Oregon, and winter getaways to Sunriver. When Ben isn’t wrangling kids or assisting students, you’ll likely find him refereeing high school soccer and basketball games in and around the greater Eugene and Springfield area.

Ben is committed to fostering community, promoting active lifestyles, and supporting student success at the University of Oregon.
